My mission – shine the light

I see myself as a way-finder, a holder of the lantern and light. My role is to help shine the light where you can see your way forward. Ultimately, my mission is to empower you to find and go after what really matters to you: Who am I? What is the meaning of my life? What do I want? Why am I here? How do I make my life count? The answers to these questions will be your guiding stars for a life lived with meaning and purpose.

My best qualification as a way-finder is my own awakening journey that has taken me over many a mountain and valley. The entire experience has been my best teacher yet but yes, I was once a teacher in mainstream education before I specialised in teaching persons with autism and dyslexia. I returned to graduate school for a Masters degree in social work and counselling and it was when I was working as a social worker in mental healthcare that I found my forte in empowering folks with real skills to create life-enhancing realities. I have an eclectic bag of healing tools that include NLP, hypnotherapy, reiki, pranic healing, yoga, and the creative arts. The creative act can really bring about some powerful healing.

Growth or safety, your choice.

Why do I do this, you ask. Well, empowering others at-source has come to mean a great deal to me and I do this through workshops and courses that build self-knowledge and teach self-enquiry. I also offer psycho-social-spiritual care through personal or group sessions using symbol, metaphor and counselling. Hence your sessions with me isn’t just talk therapy although it can be if that’s your choice. However, symbols serve such an important function in helping us understand what’s buried deep within our psyche through their visual representation that my work would be incomplete without them. Equally with metaphors. Symbols and metaphors are well known as the alternative language of the unconscious especially when you look at the work of Carl Jung and Milton. I will also draw on the philosophical teachings of Vedanta and Zen Buddhism to help you craft coping strategies and face life’s difficulties with grace.

You just want a life that is fulfilling, has purpose and meaning, and where you are happy in your own skin. Whichever it is, all it takes sometimes is jus that bit of light and clarity, and the rest will follow. Like the lotus in the pond, our nature is to seek the Light in us while being fully aware we have to live and thrive in the mud. Drop me a line for a no-obligation chat using the Contact Form so we can see how I can shine the light for you.

By the way, although I don’t call myself a Buddhist because I don’t think there is such a thing, I have taken the Eight Precepts and am better known by my Buddhist name, Yan. Just thought I would let you know.

May we all be well, happy, peaceful, and free from suffering.
