Twin Hearts meditation is an immensely powerful tool which I learned from Master Choa Kok Sui in his Pranic Healing workshop. This meditation has taught me one very important lesson and that is, the yogi path is a path with heart. There’s no real spirituality if there is no awakened heart or loving kindness that includes everyone and other sentient beings.
The goal is to connect the the Twin Hearts
The purpose of the Twin Hearts meditation is to create an open conduit between the cosmic and spiritual hearts. The cosmic heart is the abode of divine love. A love that encompasses everyone and makes no distinction. The spiritual heart is the heart that makes you capable of loving wisdom, compassion and devotion. Practising this meditation on a regular basis will help us to enhance the conduit between the two hearts. Start with 5 minutes as a beginner then increase it to 10, 15 and 20 minutes. Make it part of your regular routine.
Begin by stretching your body perhaps with the Surya Namaskara followed by Cow Pose to further stretch the spine. Once you have loosened your body…
1. Sit comfortably
Sit comfortably in your usual meditation posture whether it is on a cushion or a chair. Ensure your back is relaxed but straight. Do not slouch or lean back. Consciously slow down your breathing to further relax your body. Then place the tip of your tongue to touch the upper palette just behind your front teeth.
2. Put your palms together to give thanks
Put your palms together in front of your heart in Namaste mudra. Silently give thanks to all your teachers and masters for their blessings.
3. Invoke the following…
I am that I am. I am the Soul. I am one with God. I am the Divine Source and Divine Love.
4. Follow with the Prayer of St. Francis
Make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is darkness, light; Sadness, joy.
5. Bless the Earth and everyone
Open up your palms (previously in Namaste mudra) and place them over the center of your chest where your Heart Chakra is. Place your focus here for a few moments. Then open out your arms to either side as if you are holding a beach ball in your hands. Imagine this ball as Mother Earth. Send loving energy in the form of a pink light that emerges from your heart. Surround Mother Earth with the pink light.
6. Connecting the Crown and Heart Chakras
Now, imagine a stream of pink light coming down from a foot above your head, down into the top of your head, into the Crown Chakra, down to your heart, and then shining forth from your Heart Chakra. Surround Mother Earth with this pink light.
7. Continue to bless Mother Earth
Now you have created a conduit. All you have to do is to continue sending the pink light of loving energy simultaneously through the two hearts – the Cosmic Heart at the top and out through the Spiritual Heart at your chest. Continue for another 5, 10 or 15 minutes.
8. End the meditation
As you come to the end of the meditation, visualise the pink light dimming and finally shutting off at the top of your head. Send the remainder of the pink light down out through the soles of your feet. And shutting off.
9. Give thanks for God’s blessings
Put your palms together and give thanks for God’s blessings. Thank your teachers and masters, too, for their guidance and teaching, and for the truth that they impart.
You can also finish the meditation by chanting AUM (the proper way is to chant it with all its 3 syllables). Should you feel like following up with some physical exercise, you could do some asanas or take a brisk walk. Or, have a shower instead. And that ‘s it. It is a simple yet extremely powerful technique. By doing this on a regular basis, your Crown and Heart chakras will start to respond and likewise the rest of the chakras as well. You will enjoy better physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health as a result. Match this meditation with a daily conscious effort to be kind, loving and forgiving in all situations. We want to be as authentic as we can.
